Simson was German manufacturer of motorcycles and mopeds.
The company was started by the Simson brothers in 1856 with the production of weapons. Today, their surname is mainly associated with mopeds, which have gained great popularity in East Germany (GDR), Poland and other neighboring countries, especially in the countries of the Eastern Bloc. The most popular models are Simson S51 and the Simson SR50 scooter.
To this day, Simson mopeds, although most of them are over 20 years old, still enjoy recognition due to high reliability, but also easy access to spare parts, as well as the simplicity of repair.
In the fall of 2002, after many years of failures in the economically changed and politically new market reality (systemic transformation), production was finally stopped. The bankruptcy of the plants was announced on February 1, 2003.
The company MZA (Meyer-Zweiradtechnik-Ahnatal) GmbH, which was established in 1993, produces spare parts for almost all Simson models built so far, and since 2009 for the new M541 (50 cc) and M741 (70 cc) engines.
