Rieju is a manufacturer of mopeds and motorcycles from Spain. They specialize in low-capacity motorcycles (from 49 to 450cc) with Minarelli engines. Their products are available in almost all European countries. In 1934, two young entrepreneurs, Luis Riera Carré and Jaime Juanola Farrés, founded a company producing bicycle accessories. The name RIEJU comes from the first letters of each of their surnames (RIEra + JUanola).
In 1947, Rieju builds his first moped, equipping one of his bikes with a 38cc four-stroke auxiliary engine (built by Serwa of France) coupled to the rear wheel. This model had a power of 1 HP and a maximum speed of about 40 km / h.
Two years later, in 1949, Rieju launched the "No. 2" model with a more powerful engine and a self-designed gearbox.
In 1964, Rieju reached an agreement with Minarelli to produce its engines under license and launches the ""Jaca"" model with a power of 3.5 HP and a maximum speed of 70 km / h, which would have to be limited to 40 km / h due to regulations on mopeds.
Production grew steadily in the 1980s thanks to new and more varied models, placing Rieju among the best moped dealers in Spain. In addition, Rieju bikes have won several awards in international Enduro competitions, raising the brand's profile.
In 1994, the company opened up to other markets and began exporting its models to all of Europe. Until 2006, exports accounted for approximately 60% of their sales.
In 2011, many new Rieju machines were introduced to the market, in particular the new RS3 50 and RS3 125LC. They are made in Spain and powered by Yamaha engines.
