Piaggio

Piaggio & C. SpA is an Italian motor vehicle manufacturer that produces a range of two-wheeled motor vehicles and commercial vehicles under seven brands: Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi and Scarabeo. The company is headquartered in Pontedera, Italy. The company was founded by Rinaldo Piaggio in 1884, initially producing locomotives and railway carriages. After the death of Enrico Piaggio in 1965, the Agnelli family, owners of Fiat concern, took control of the company. In 1964, the company's aviation division was transformed into a separate company IAM Rinaldo Piaggio (now Piaggio Aero), and in the late 1960s the concern took over the well-known motorcycle company Gilera, and the model range was expanded to include mopeds with a capacity of 50 cm3.
In 2000, Piaggio's financial situation became unenviable. In 1999, control of the company passed to the Morgan Grenfell Foundation, the London branch of Deutsche Bank. In 2003, most of the company was sold to the Milan investment firm IMMSI, owned by the famous Italian businessman Roberto Colaninino. Under Colaninno's leadership, the company emerged from the crisis and began to make a profit. Since 2006, Piaggio has been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.
They have six R&D centers and operate in over 50 countries. In April 2019, Piaggio Group opened its 500th store!
