MZ/MUZ

Motorenwerke Zschopau GmbH (formerly MZ Motorrad- und Zweiradwerk GmbH) is a German motorcycle manufacturer based in Zschopau, Saxony. The acronym MZ has been in use since 1956, it stands for Motorenwerke Zschopau GmbH (German Zschopau Engine Factory). From 1992 to 1999, the company was called MuZ, short for Motorrad und Zweiradwerk (German: Motorcycle and two-wheeler factory). In 1999, MZ was taken over by the Malaysian Hong Leong concern, which ensured its financial existence. The new product of the German plants was the MZ 1000 S.
However, in 2008, Hong Leong company closed the factory. In March 2009, the company, under the new name Motorenwerke Zschopau GmbH, was bought by two German motorcycle riders Ralf Waldmann and Martin Wimmer. For now, the company only offers Elektroroller Charly electric scooters.
