BMW

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is a German multinational company that manufactures luxury cars and motorcycles. The company was founded in 1916 as an aircraft engine manufacturer, which it produced from 1917 to 1918 and again from 1933 to 1945. Cars are sold under the BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce brands, and motorcycles are sold under the BMW Motorrad brand.

BMW began producing motorcycle engines and then motorcycles after World War I.
The first successful motorcycle after the unsuccessful Helios and Flinks was the "R32" of 1923. It had a twin boxer type engine with a cylinder projecting into the airstream on each side of the machine. Except for single-cylinder models, all motorcycles used this distinctive layout until the early 1980s. Many BMWs are still produced with this layout, which is referred to as the R-series.
In 2004, BMW introduced a new sports motorcycle, the K1200S. It had a 167 hp (125 kW) engine from the company's work with the Williams F1 team and is lighter than previous K models. Innovations included electronically adjustable front and rear suspension and a Hossack front fork, which BMW calls Duolever.
BMW introduced antilock brakes on production motorcycles in the late 1980s, and the generation of antilock brakes available on BMW 2006 and later motorcycles paved the way for the introduction of electronic stability control, or anti-skid, technology later in 2007.
BMW has been an innovator in motorcycle suspension design, introducing telescopic front suspension long before most other manufacturers.
On January 31, 2013, the BMW Group announced that Pierer Industrie AG had purchased Husqvarna Motorcycles for an undisclosed amount.
In September 2018, BMW unveiled a new self-driving motorcycle with BMW Motorrad that aims to use technology to improve road safety. The motorcycle's design was inspired by the company's BMW R1200 GS.
All production of BMW motorcycles since 1969 has been located at the company's Berlin-Spandau factory.
