Fuel injection system
A fuel injection system is a method of introducing fuel into the internal combustion engine of a motorcycle or scooter. It is a more advanced fuel delivery system compared to carburetors.
A typical fuel injection system consists of several components, including:
- Fuel injectors: These are small valves that open and close to deliver fuel to the engine. They are controlled by the engine control unit (ECU) and are usually located near the throttle body.
- Fuel pump: This is responsible for delivering fuel from the fuel tank to the injectors. It can be electric or mechanical and is usually located in the fuel tank.
- Throttle body: This is the housing containing the throttle valve, which regulates the amount of air flowing into the engine. It is located between the air filter and the engine and is connected to the fuel injectors.
- Engine Control Unit (ECU): This is the computer that controls the fuel injection system. It receives data from various sensors, such as the throttle position sensor, coolant temperature sensor and oxygen sensor, and uses this information to determine the correct amount of fuel to inject into the engine.
- Sensors: These are devices that measure various parameters, such as engine speed, temperature and air flow, and send signals to the ECU.
Injection systems have several advantages over carburetors. They are more efficient, more precise and produce fewer emissions. They also provide better throttle response, more consistent power delivery and better fuel economy.
Injection systems are becoming more common on motorcycles and scooters because they are more reliable, easier to maintain and meet stricter emissions regulations.
